Mowgli aka Manuel

Not long to go now till we rock Fluid bar on the 27th… we speak to Manuel aka Mowgli one of our headline VJs about recent gigs, inspirations and melting minds and also give you a little preview of his latest show reel.

So Manuel.. What have you been up to today?

Not much yet as it's 8 am, but yesterday I had a day split between doing web design for Apple and producing a DVD for the band The Tall Poppies which was used that same night at their gig in Zigfrid in Hoxton. After the gig I had chat with The Tall Poppies and a video producer about making their new music video. I also spent some time organising the move to my new studio which I'm very excited about.

What where you listening to as a kid jumping around in your bedroom?

The Ramones figure high on the list, I had their first album since the age of 6 and I saw them live 3 times during my teenage years

When did you first decide you wanted to be a VJ?

I never really decided it, it just happened. I went to see a mate's band- Detwiije. It was all instrumental post-rock and I loved the music but there was a visual element missing as there was no lead singer. I suggested that they should work on a visual aspect of their performance and before I knew it I was the one doing it! I have a background in all kinds of design, illustration, animation and dj'ing so it was a very natural progression.

For those people looking to get into visual arts and VJ'ing, what would be your very first piece of advice?

I don't believe in advice of this kind. If people have specific questions great but I think that following one's path involves making your own mistakes as at the end of the day mistakes shape what you do as much as successes.

Are you looking forward to melting some Never Grow Up heads? Let our crowd know what you plan to be doing and where you get your inspiration from.

Always looking forward to melting stuff. I haven't got a clue what I'll be doing, that's the beauty of it. I'll go with the vibe and see where that takes us all. My inspiration comes from everything around me, from music to physics. My style is constantly embracing new techniques and developing into unforeseen results.

Nice one!! See you next Friday dude!
